Samuel Appiah Darko

Samuel Appiah Darko is the Director of the Strategy, Research & Communication Division, which is equivalent in rank to Commissioner of Police. He assumed office on 2 May 2022.
  
Mr. Darko has over more than 15 years experience in media. He is also a lawyer and an academic.
 
He began his career as a journalist. He was the BBC Correspondent in Accra for 5 years. He consulted for and trained staff of several reputable companies on news reporting, media law and media relations.
 
He was a senior associate at Cromwell Gray LLP, a law firm operating from Ghana. He specialized in litigation, criminal law, administrative law, media law, security law, and family law. He was also an intelligence officer for Africa Risk Consulting.
 
He was a lecturer in media law and communications at the University of Professional Studies (UPSA) and Wisconsin International University College in Accra.
 
He played an influential role as a member of the committee that set up the Masters programme in Peace, Security and Intelligence Management (MPSI) at UPSA, and served as coordinator for the Media and Website Unit and the MPSI course.
 
Mr. Darko is a prolific writer, with contributions in many academic and professional publications.
 
He holds an M.A. in Gender, Peace and Security Studies from the Kofi Annan Peacekeeping Training Centre in Accra; an LL.B. from the Faculty of Law of Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA); and a B.A. in Communication Studies (First Class Honours) issued by the University of Ghana. He has a certificate in Multimedia Broadcasting from the BBC Academy, College of Journalism, London.
 
He had his professional law studies at the Ghana School of Law and he was called to the Ghana Bar in 2017.  
 
In 2021, he gained admission to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in media studies at Birkbeck, University of London, London.
 
He is a member of the Ghana Bar Association, the University Teachers Association of Ghana, and the Ghana Journalists Association.
