Accra | 12 March 2025
On Tuesday, 11 March 2025, the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) to strengthen inter-agency cooperation in the fight against financial crimes, money laundering, and corruption.
During the visit, Mr. Agyebeng formally congratulated the newly appointed CEO and reaffirmed the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s (OSP) commitment to fostering a closer working relationship with the FIC. He emphasised the need for enhanced intelligence sharing, joint investigations, and coordinated enforcement efforts to improve the efficiency of financial crime detection and prosecution.
The Special Prosecutor stressed that collaboration between the two institutions should extend beyond statutory obligations and be actively implemented in the national interest. He highlighted the role of financial institutions in either enabling or preventing corruption and underscored the critical need for the OSP to rely on the FIC’s expertise in tracking and analysing suspicious financial transactions. Given its specialised mandate, he noted, the FIC remains the OSP’s most trusted partner in financial intelligence.
The acting Chief Executive Officer of the FIC, Albert Kwadwo Twum Boafo, welcomed the Special Prosecutor and expressed appreciation for the visit. He reaffirmed the FIC’s commitment to deepening collaboration with all law enforcement agencies to strengthen Ghana’s anti-corruption framework. In this regard, he presented an investigation report to the Special Prosecutor as part of the Centre’s efforts to strengthen inter-agency cooperation.
The engagement concluded with a renewed commitment to bolstering inter-agency cooperation through enhanced information sharing, joint investigations, and coordinated enforcement actions to effectively combat corruption.
The Special Prosecutor was accompanied by the OSP’s Director for Asset Recovery and Management, Albert Akurugu, and was received by FIC’s CEO, along with the Deputy Manager for Compliance, Sean Henry Osei, and Legal Executive, Angela Kafui Attakpah.
