African Governance and Anti-Corruption Summit 2025

29 June 2025

The Bright Future Alliance (TBFA), in partnership with the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), convened the African Governance and Anti-Corruption Summit at the West African Genetic Medicine Centre (WAGMC), University of Ghana.

Held on 26 June 2025, the summit brought together senior government officials, civil society organisations, the media, and a dynamic group of young people—primarily students from the University of Ghana and Accra Girls’ Senior High School.

Notable attendees included the Speaker of Parliament, the National Chairman of the NDC, and senior officials from the OSP.

The Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament, delivered the keynote address, encouraging Ghana’s youth to take an active role in the fight against corruption. “You are not the future leaders—you are leading today,” he said, urging students to participate in governance and national development.

He also announced the planned introduction of Integrity Awards to celebrate honest citizens and Vulture Awards to call out corrupt behaviour.

Albert Akurugu, Director- Asset Recovery and Management Division, delivering a speech at the Summit.

Speaking on behalf of the Special Prosecutor, Albert Akurugu, Director of the Asset Recovery and Management Division, outlined the Office’s key achievements and forward-looking initiatives.

He highlighted the Youth Against Corruption (YAC) programme, which seeks to instil values of transparency, accountability, and ethical leadership in young people.

Director Akurugu also shared that the OSP is collaborating with stakeholders to incorporate anti-corruption education into the national curriculum—from basic school through to senior high level.

The approach will be practical and project-based, providing students with opportunities to confront real-world ethical dilemmas, rather than focusing solely on theoretical instruction.
